You may have noticed that we offer a large selection of cast iron cookware. Cast iron cookware has been around for a long time.  It has been used for thousands of years and is non-toxic. Some health experts consider cast iron pans to be the safest and healthiest cookware option for individuals who are particularly sensitive to trace elements found in other types of cookware.

Cast iron pans are made primarily from iron and steel, the carbon element being the most basic component of cast iron. It has a somewhat naturally non-stick property because of the effects of fat heated on the cooking surface over time. A well-seasoned cast iron pan can be as good as any man-made 'non-stick' surface coating.

An interesting fact about cast iron pans is that the minimal levels of iron leaching which may have a beneficial effect on human health. Iron is an essential mineral, and many people are deficient in iron (particularly women). In medical trials, cooking in cast iron pots would appear to improve iron status.

We recommend purchasing your first cast iron cookware here beautifully handcrafted by Emba in the UK.  If the weight of cast iron is a problem, then we recommend our Lodge Blacklock range as it has been developed to weigh less than average and may be easier to handle for larger sized cookware.  Alternatively, if you have a larger budget, we recommend Lodge FINEX as our top of the range cast iron cookware because it's also free of any chemical additives or coatings. The only material is cast iron.

We believe cast iron pans are among the healthiest and safest cookware choice which does not need improvement or innovation.
