Lodge Cast Iron comes seasoned and ready to use! Just give it a quick rinse and hand dry, and you’re ready to start cooking.

  • Seasoning is simply oil baked onto the iron, giving it a natural, easy-release finish.
  • Lodge seasons all of its cookware with soy vegetable oil and nothing else.
  • Any food-safe cooking oil/shortening will work for maintaining your cookware. We recommend vegetable oil or canola oil.
  • The best way to maintain the seasoning on your cast iron is simply to use it! Cooking in it regularly using any kind of cooking oil is a great way to keep your pan looking and performing well.

If your pan becomes dull, grey, splotchy, or gets rusty, it could probably benefit from being re-seasoned. Just follow these easy steps:

  1. Wash

Wash the cookware with hot, soapy water and a stiff brush. (It is okay to use soap because you are preparing to re-season the cookware). Rinse and hand dry thoroughly.

  1. Oil

Apply a thin, even coating of cooking oil to the cookware (inside and out). If you use too much oil, your cookware may become sticky.

  1. Bake

Place aluminum foil on the bottom rack of the oven to catch any dripping. Set oven temperature to high - at least 230°C. Place your cookware upside down on the top rack of the oven. Bake the cookware for one hour. Allow to cool and repeat as necessary to achieve the classic black patina.

Congratulations, your cast iron is now re-seasoned and ready for use!
